At Clark Atlanta University, the TRiO Upward Bound program proudly serves125 eligible high school students from Carver Early College, Carver STEAM Academy, Maynard Jackson High School, South Atlanta High School, and KIPP Atlanta Collegiate. We begin working with students the summer before their 9th-grade year and continue supporting them through high school graduation. These students come from low-income households or are first-generation college students—where neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree.
The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.
ABOUT US
The TRIO Programs (TRIO) are Federally funded outreach and student services programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. TRIO includes eight programs targeted to serve and assist income eligible individuals, potential first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to post baccalaureate programs.
As one of the eight TRiO programs, Upward Bound provides essential support to help students prepare for college admission. This program creates valuable opportunities for participants to excel in their precollege academic performance and, ultimately, in their higher education journey.
